3Dmou.se: A Retrospective
May 2023

3Dmou.se, the boundary-pushing creative consultancy, blends humour, corporate culture, and retro internet aesthetics in a visually eclectic and thought-provoking retrospective. This London-based collective, composed of Charles Olive, Tom Pounder, Romney Taylor, and Sonny Baker, draws inspiration from unexpected sources. The group take their slogan – Science-Fiction-Fantasy-Komödie – from the genre description used in the German Wikipedia entry for the 1984 film Ghostbusters – Die Geisterjäger.

Known for their deliberately obtuse, yet deceptively simple designs, 3Dmou.se critiques and celebrates the chaos of digital culture, zeitgeist worship, and the commercialization of art. Each piece is an embodiment of their unique ethos: one foot in the past, another in the future, bridging the primordial and the technological with humour and irony.

The exhibition features key pieces such as Chinese Hackers (2017), which blends cyber paranoia with pop culture in a playful visual of emoji-style gas masks and references to hacking. Their Cool.Mouse Animal poster channels 90s net art and beat poetry into a corporate rebellion, while Science-Fiction-Fantasy-Komödie deconstructs typography into glitch art, reflecting the distorted lens through which 3Dmou.se views popular genres and media.
